ONWORDS Magazine - the history
The first issue of Onwords was launched in 1979, initially as a vehicle of communication for the Postal Scrabble Club, and with the rather awkward title Onwards On Words. For issue 2 the name had been shortened to the more aesthetically pleasing Onwords and it soon developed an appeal to the wider spectrum of Scrabble enthusiasts across the UK. Early issues were no more than 12 or 16 pages in length but as its following grew so did the material and soon ONWORDS was appearing as a regular 24-32 page magazine with a number of regular contributers for all levels of Scrabble enthusiasts. With the creation of the UK's Association of British Scrabble Players in 1987 and the ABSP's development of its own magazine (The Last Word), Onwords has gradually dropped coverage of domestic tournaments and related material, enabling it to complement TLW and maintain it's unique appeal. Today Onwords is published approximately quarterly and as well as a healthy UK following, also has a number of subscribers abroad from places as far apart as North America, Australia, New Zealand, Hong Kong, Africa, and the Far East reflecting the worldwide interest in the beautiful game of Scrabble.
If you would like a free sample of Onwords then just email Onwords magazine with your name and postal address and a recent edition will be mailed to you , together with a subscription form.
