Hi, I'm Allan Simmons, and have been involved in
many aspects of the great game Scrabble since my schooldays.
I'm married to Gilli and have three daughters Amy, Hannah and Lucy,
and live in the Scottish Borders in a coastal village called
Coldingham - having escaped
the ratrace in 2001 when I was made redundant from my job as an IT
Projects Manager.
I'd always had a fascination for words, and therefore dictionaries, and Scrabble seemed the perfect outlet to bring many esoteric words to life coupled with some challenging game skills. I've been playing competitive Scrabble since 1974 (when I joined the London Scrabble League) and now play at most major tournaments in the UK and I'm currently Chairman of the UK's Association of British Scrabble Players (ABSP).
Over the years I've also been fortunate enough to have opportunities to get involved in other activities centred on the game which have broadened my enjoyment and challenge off the board. Since being made redundant I set up Onwords Ltd to formalise all these activities as 'Everything Scrabble' is now in effect my professional job.
